Working to Eliminate Racism from our Hearts and Schools

The Diocese of San José is saddened and outraged to learn of the racist Instagram account that appears to be affiliated with recent graduates of Saint Francis High School. The administration of St. Francis High School, which is sponsored by the Brothers of Holy Cross, immediately worked to get the site taken down and initiated a disciplinary investigation. In addition, the Diocese of San José is also heartbroken to learn of the experiences of racism by students and alumni of Archbishop Mitty High School and Notre Dame High School.

The Diocese and the school administrations take these accounts very seriously and vow to listen to and learn from the experience of our students and alumni of color. The Diocese is committed to supporting the school leadership to ensure practices on all our campuses reflect solidarity with and inclusion of Black and other students of color. We are also committed to educating and providing tangible actions for our students and families to respond to racial injustice. As Catholics, we have a responsibility to do our part in eradicating racism from our own hearts and lives, but also to work together to eliminate the institutional forms of this sin. Learn more at:
